The AFL is back. No, not the old little brother to the NFL which operated in the sixties before merging with the NFL in 1970--but the Arena Football League, indoor football where drop kicks get you extra points and nobody punts. There were plenty of other TV sports options on ESPN's Ocho schedule: cherry pit spitting, world axe throwing, chess boxing, and the classic Tetris World Championship, but the GridCard Commissioner couldn't find odds for these events--maybe next year.
College football is still a couple of weeks away, but each GridCard game features exhibition football. Preseason games are only meaningless if you don't bet them. The Cowboys play the 49ers on Saturday and the Raiders @ Cardinals close the Second Game on Thursday. If you're a fan of Philadelphia, this week's GridCard has plenty for you: two Phillies @ Giants games, three Cubs @ Phillies matchups, and Philadelphia Soul vs Albany Empire in ArenaBowl XXXII.
As usual, there is plenty of MLB action and a NASCAR race--but hang in there. Baseball bats will soon be squeezed out by helmets and shoulder pads. The first FBS game kicks off on August 24th when Florida play Miami.
