Cam Smith (-20) shot a back-nine 30--the lowest for any major champion in the Final round--a stunning -8 under 64 to win the 150th Open Championship. At the 54-hole mark, the Aussie star trailed Viktor Hovland and Rory McIlroy by four strokes. But Rory (-18) two-putted the final 39 holes, and Smith strung together five straight birdies to overcome him. USA's Cameron Young (-19) eagled the 18th to slip past McIlroy and finish runner-up.
Until Smith joined the club on Sunday, Jack Nicklaus had been the only player to win both the Players Championship and The Open in the same year.
On the GridCard, GB55 (43) continued to light it up with a rare FGTB. Last week's King Kong, GB55 missed only a British Open 2-Ball while posting his fourth Hamlin-Hopper of the year. Gm55 was beatable; a dozen other players managed Qualifying Scores: Kevin K (39), Kara (37), Zeke (36), Nutmeg (35), AK (32), Butch (32), KMac (32), Go Bucs (31), Barry (31), MMc (31), BabyMac (29), and ProGrid Tour winner dangerzone (36), who just missed a Perfect 45.
In Team GridCard action, Team Detwiler beat the #1 team in the league, the PGT 125-124 behind GB55's (43) First Game TallBoy. Kevin K (39) led the OG to a rare win, TMac coming up short 133-116. As usual Butch (32) was HPM for VBar, the pub patrons getting the best of Team Collins 108-80.
